Walter Steinberg Photographer and Writer
Images Portrait
Walter is one of the foolhardy adventurers in our team. Whenever he has to sit at his desk at work, the author of "Abenteuer Kuskokwim" is probably already dreaming of the next canoe tour, aching shoulders, itching mosquito bites, flayed hands and feet, frosty nights, dirt in his food... and concerning food - where others drool over the fauna, he's already thinking about the recipe for supper. Everyone is able to live on instant meals whilst travelling...
Walter Steinberg grew up in Düsseldorf and studied photo engineering in Cologne. His main occupation involves scientific and technical applications of photographic technologies in microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and microlithography. So he tours the world's semiconductor factories as an application engineer - he has worked in a far away places as Oregon, California, Spain, Israel, Hongkong, Shanghai, Taiwan and Japan.
Besides that Walter has been visiting the world's natural landscapes for more than twenty years. He falls for those remote regions of the northern hemisphere, especially Alaska with its wilderness and wide open spaces. Almost every year he travels through the region "by fair means" - canoeing and hiking in Summer and by ski, snowshoe or sled in the Winter.
He must have covered a distance of more than 9000 kilometeres by Canadian canoe and kayak by now. He documents his experiences on film and has no quarms about lugging around quite some kilos of cameras, lenses and tripoids across the wilderness.
Accordingly his main focus in photography lies with landscape, nature and adventure travelling - including meeting the locals and four-legged inhabitants.
